Bok Test flyover called off
There will be no pre-match flyover before Saturday’s third Test between the Springboks and All Blacks at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
Airlink has withdrawn its application for a planned flyover before the Test as the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) continues to investigate last weekend’s dramatic display in Cape Town.
Two green Airlink Embraer E190 jets flew low over Cape Town Stadium before the Boks’ 33-26 victory, with footage of the flyover generating widespread debate about how close the aircraft came to the roof. palladian.co.za
Flightradar24 reported that its lowest recorded ADS-B altitude put one of the jets approximately 12.5-14m above the top of the stadium.

SACAA communications manager Sisa Majola confirmed that Airlink had applied for three flyovers during the series, with the first taking place at Ellis Park on 22 August and the second in Cape Town a week later.
Both had received regulatory approval.
“The necessary processes, including the practice flight in a simulator in preparation for the Saturday flight and a safety briefing, were conducted ahead of the operation as required by the regulations,” Majola said of the Cape Town display.
However, the attention generated by the flyover prompted SACAA to conduct further checks.
“Following various discussions in the media relating to the events of the past weekend, SACAA initiated compliance verifications, engaged the operator, obtained the flight data recording downloads as well as other additional requirements,” Majola said.
“The regulator has begun its analysis process and has requested additional information from the operator to reach an informed position.”

Airlink had already voluntarily provided black-box data from both aircraft to SACAA, saying this would allow the regulator to independently verify that the flyover complied with its authorisation.
The airline previously maintained that the Cape Town display was carefully planned and rehearsed, and that recorded flight data showed both aircraft remained within approved altitude and speed limits.
Majola said SACAA would issue a report and recommendations once its assessment was complete.
“SACAA, as the safety net of the South African skies, gives the public the assurance that aviation safety and security compliance will always be paramount and is not negotiable,” he said.

Bafana Bafana star striker off to the US on season-long loan deal
Bafana Bafana star striker Lyle Foster is set to leave English side Burnley FC on a loan deal to the United States of America (USA).
According to multiple media reports, Foster is on his way to Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Houston Dynamo.
The lanky striker had attracted interest from a number of clubs following Burnley’s relegation from the English Premier League (EPL).
However, a club-to-club agreement has reportedly been reached between Burnley and Houston Dynamo for the Bafana Bafana man to move.

BAFANA BAFANA STRIKER LYLE FOSTER OFF TO THE US
Houston Dynamo will have an option to buy Foster for a whopping R113 million at the end of his loan spell in June 2027.
The 25-year-old frontman will join a growing list of South African players currently playing their trade in the MLS.
As things stand, South Africa has Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Puso Dithejane, Tylon Smith, and Bongokuhle Hlongwane as some of the Bafana Bafana stars in the MLS.
Foster will leave Burnely having featured 99 times for them during his stay. He scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists.

Puso Dithejane bags Player of the Month award at Chicago Fire!
South African attacker Puso Dithejane has bagged the Player of the Month award at Chicago Fire.
The Kaizer Chiefs product and former TS Galaxy man was on fire for Chicago during the month of July/August.
Dithejane scored four goals and provided three assists during that period, making him the most influential player in the team.
The 22-year-old attacker’s rise came immediately after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and he has really been flying the South African flag high in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Dithejane was gradually introduced to the Chicago Fire system, and it has always been Mbekezeli Mbokazi who hogged the headlines.
His coach, Gregg Berhalter, recently spoke highly of Dithejane, expressing his delight at how the dreadlocked attacker is growing.

BAFANA BAFANA CALL-UP ON THE HORIZON?
With Bafana Bafana set to get their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers underway this month, Dithejane would certainly fancy his chances of being called-up.
Hugo Broos previously included the Amakhosi academy product in his squad but the attacker failed to make final cut.
Nonetheless, Dithejane has proven himself to be a reliable attacker over the past few weeks, and perhaps newly-appointed coach Pitso Mosimane would be tempted to give him a chance.
Bafana Bafana host Guinea on 23 September before traveling to Eritrea for their second AFCON qualifier on 27 September.
Mosimane is expected to name his preliminary squad in the next few days with the final 23-man squad announced closer to the first game.

Operating from her base in Bloemfontein, Baaitjies has consistently proved that geographic location is no barrier to regional impact.
