Boks prep for Los Pumas duel without coaches

Two integral Springbok coaches have reportedly been left at home as the squad makes their way to Buenos Aires for next Saturday’s one-off clash against Argentina.

According to Rapport, Springbok attack guru Tony Brown and Mobi-Unit coach Duane Vermeulen have remained in South Africa with a group of players at the national team’s base in Johannesburg.

While Rassie Erasmus departed for Argentina on Saturday with a 26-man squad, Brown is understood to be leading a parallel training camp ahead of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks. betsport.cv

Senior analyst Joe Lewis and sports scientist Sebastian Prim are also understood to be part of this coaching group.

Brown’s role is notable given his extensive knowledge of New Zealand rugby, and much of the Boks’ current attacking framework is built around the former All Blacks flyhalf’s philosophy.

Rapport adds that Vermeulen has remained to assist Brown, with the ex-Bok No 8 expected to oversee work at the breakdown and driving mauls.

The players staying behind include Cheslin Kolbe, Damian Willemse, Jesse Kriel, Malcolm Marx, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Paul de Villiers, Jasper Wiese, Grant Williams, Manie Libbok, Damian de Allende, Kurt-Lee Arendse and Ruan Nortjé.

Coach Rassie Erasmus has addressed the speculation around Siya Kolisi’s readiness to lead the Springboks in the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series.

Kolisi is set to make his return from a hamstring injury against Argentina in Buenos Aires next Saturday after missing the entire Nations Championship campaign.

The two-time World Cup winner was among five fit-again players named on Friday in a 26-man squad bound for South America and is in line to earn his 104th Test cap.

However, the 35-year-old’s future in the starting XV has come under scrutiny following the emergence of flanker Paul de Villiers during his absence.

But, speaking to the media earlier in the week, Erasmus dismissed any uncertainty about who will lead the four-time world champions when the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry campaign against the All Blacks kicks off at Ellis Park on 22 August.

“Without a doubt. He is fit, he is the captain,” the Bok boss stated.

Le Malawi continue d’impressionner pour sa première participation à la CAN féminine. Les Flammes ont signé une deuxième victoire consécutive en s’imposant face à l’Égypte (3-1), ce samedi, et prennent seules les commandes du groupe C avec six points.

Portées une nouvelle fois par Temwa Chawinga, buteuse et passeuse décisive, les Malawites se rapprochent d’une qualification historique pour les quarts de finale.

Dans l’autre rencontre du groupe, le Nigeria a réagi après sa défaite inaugurale. Les championnes d’Afrique en titre ont battu la Zambie (1-0) grâce à un but rapide d’Asisat Oshoala (8e). Malgré l’expulsion d’Oluwatosin Demehin juste avant la pause, les Super Falcons ont conservé leur avantage jusqu’au coup de sifflet final.

Au classement, le Malawi occupe la première place avec six points. Le Nigeria et la Zambie comptent trois unités chacun avant la dernière journée, tandis que l’Égypte est éliminée avec deux défaites.

Cela fait huit semaines ce dimanche que le président Paul Biya a quitté le Cameroun pour ce qui a été présenté par son cabinet comme un « court séjour privé en Europe ». Depuis, face aux interrogations et inquiétudes exprimées autour de cette absence prolongée, des ministres ont tour à tour déclaré tantôt que le chef de l'État, âgé de 93 ans, était bien au travail, même à l'étranger, tantôt qu'il avait, comme tout salarié, droit à un congé.

L’intérêt du Celtic Glasgow pour Farès Ghedjemis se confirme. L’entraîneur du club écossais, Martin O’Neill, a reconnu l’existence de discussions avancées en vue du recrutement de l’ailier algérien de Frosinone durant ce mercato estival. Dans des propos relayés par Sky Sports, le technicien nord-irlandais a confirmé que le dossier progressait dans le bon sens. «Nous avons un très grand intérêt pour ce joueur. Je ne sais pas jusqu’où nous pourrons aller dans cette opération, mais les négociations avancent très bien», a-t-il déclaré.

Ces déclarations traduisent la volonté du Celtic de conclure rapidement ce transfert. À 23 ans, Ghedjemis s’est distingué par ses performances sous les couleurs de Frosinone, attirant l’attention de plusieurs formations européennes. Le champion d’Écosse semble toutefois avoir pris une longueur d’avance et espère finaliser l’arrivée de l’international algérien dans les prochains jours afin de renforcer son secteur offensif avant le début de la saison.
