Boks to play at empty Ellis Park?
The Springboks’ Nations Championship opener against England could be played in front of a relatively small crowd at Ellis Park on Saturday.
According to Rapport, only about 21,000 tickets had been sold by Wednesday, leaving plenty of seats available at the 62,000-capacity venue.
Tickets were still on sale through Ticketmaster on Thursday, with prices ranging from R950 to R3,000. hiddenlangkawi.club

SA Rugby believes economic pressures have contributed to the sluggish sales but is hopeful of a late surge before kick-off.
“The impact of the war in Iran has undoubtedly had an impact on everyone’s pockets, which is reflected in the retail industry as well as in ticket sales,” a SA Rugby spokesperson told Rapport.
“We hope to get close to the historical average attendance against England in South Africa, which is 91% of the stadium’s capacity.
“Tickets will be available until kick-off, and we are hoping for a strong week of final sales for the start of a major new competition.”

Last week’s non-cap match between the Springboks and the Barbarians at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium was also played in front of large swathes of empty seats.

JP: Vusi has big match temperament
Sharks coach JP Pietersen believes Vusi Moyo has the temperament to thrive at Test level.
The 20-year-old flyhalf was preparing for the Junior World Championship earlier this month, but now finds himself in Rassie Erasmus’ squad for the Nations Championship Tests against England, Scotland and Wales after impressing in the Springboks’ win over the Barbarians.

Pietersen said Moyo never looked overawed by the occasion.
“It was great to see how he came on for the Springboks against the Barbarians,” Pietersen told Rapport.
“Of course the game was already won, but he kicked well for touch and stayed calm in the moment of the big opportunity. He wasn’t overwhelmed.”

Pietersen said he had long believed Moyo was destined for the biggest stage.
“I’ve followed Vusi since his school days at KES,” he said. “He has big match temperament. He’s a general on the field who leads the team in the right direction.”

Pietersen also believes Moyo’s time with the Springboks will pay dividends when he returns to Durban.
“It helps us when Rassie and his coaches give these young players exposure, even if it’s only training alongside the big names,” he said.
“When Vusi comes back to us for the URC season, he’ll be even more comfortable.”

L’Argentine a ensuite accentué son avance avant la pause grâce à Lautaro Martínez, auteur d’un penalty obtenu par Marcos Senesi. À ce moment-là, la rencontre semblait déjà pliée.
Malgré tout, la Jordanie, pourtant éliminée avant le coup d’envoi, a montré de la fierté au retour des vestiaires. Musa Al-Taamari a réduit l’écart à la 55e minute, relançant brièvement l’intérêt du match.
Mais le moment fort de la soirée est venu avec l’entrée en jeu de Messi à l’heure de jeu. Le capitaine argentin n’a pas tardé à se signaler en inscrivant le troisième but de son équipe sur coup franc à la 80e minute, scellant définitivement le succès de l’Albiceleste.
Avec ce troisième succès en autant de matches, l’Argentine boucle la phase de groupes avec un parcours parfait et se projette désormais vers les seizièmes de finale, où elle retrouvera le Cap Vert.

Expect the unexpected from Rassie
Rassie Erasmus’ first Springbok team of the Nations Championship may appear predictable, but history suggests another surprise could be coming, writes MARK KEOHANE.
Writing for the Sunday Times, Keohane says the Test at Ellis Park is about more than one result, with Erasmus balancing the need to beat England against preparing the Springboks for the four-Test series against the All Blacks.
“If next Saturday was the final of the Nations Championship, I’d expect the match 23 to look something like this: Damian Willemse, Cheslin Kolbe, Jesse Kriel, Damian de Allende, Edwill van der Merwe, Manie Libbok, Grant Williams, Jasper Wiese, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Siya Kolisi, Ruan Nortjé, Eben Etzebeth, Thomas du Toit, Johan Grobbelaar and Ox Nché. Substitutes: Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Ntuthuko Mchunu, Wilco Louw, Cameron Hanekom, Cobus Wiese, Paul de Villiers, Embrose Papier and André Esterhuizen.”
Keohane expects Erasmus to lean on the combinations and depth built since 2018, particularly in the front row and loose trio, while integrating Bulls players who joined the squad late after the Vodacom URC final.

The biggest intrigue lies in selection philosophy rather than personnel. Will Erasmus reward those who impressed in the Barbarians victory, or rely on proven Test combinations for England before broadening his squad across the remaining July fixtures against Scotland and Wales?
“What makes the England match 23 selection interesting is whether Erasmus’ approach is to pick on historical form to get the one-off win or to treat the match as part of a bigger plan leading up to the All Blacks series,” Keohane writes.

He also points to the inclusion of Junior Springbok stars Riley Norton and Vusi Moyo as evidence that Erasmus is already looking ahead. Neither is expected to face England, but with the Bok coach, he warns, “expect the unexpected.”
