CANAL+, the South African Rugby Union (SARU) and New Zealand Rugby (NZR) have confirmed the broadcast rights agreement for Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry (RGR) to be shown live in South Africa and the Rest of Africa market on SuperSport on DStv and GOtv.

The agreement will see SuperSport, Africa’s leading sports broadcaster, showcase all four Test matches between South Africa’s Springboks and New Zealand’s All Blacks, who will embark on a full tour of SA for the first time since 1996. Three Tests starting 22 August 2026 will take place in South Africa (two in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town), with the fourth and final Test taking place in Baltimore, USA, on 12 September 2026.

SuperSport will also broadcast the four provincial matches between the All Blacks and South Africa’s premier domestic franchise teams: the DHL Stormers (7 August), Hollywoodbets Sharks (11 August), Vodacom Bulls (15 August) and the Lions (25 August). sportbet.rodeo

In South Africa, the SuperSport channels are supplied by CANAL+ Africa to the licence holder, MultiChoice (Pty) Ltd, which provides the DStv offering to subscribers.

CANAL+ Africa and MultiChoice Group CEO, David Mignot, was delighted with the confirmation of the broadcast rights agreement to the historic return of the tour after 30 years.

The highly anticipated Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry between the Springboks and All Blacks pits together two of the biggest rugby nations, who, between them, have won seven Rugby World Cup titles and are the only countries to defend their titles successfully.

The All Blacks’ last full tour to South Africa culminated in a 2-1 series victory for the visitors, who were dubbed “The Incomparables” for achieving what no other touring New Zealand rugby team had achieved in a Test series comprising three or more matches since their first visit in 1928.

The Springboks enter the series as the world’s leading rugby nation, according to the World Rugby men’s global rankings. As the team to beat, Dr Rassie Erasmus’ charges will face an All Blacks’ side under new head coach Dave Rennie.

“The South African, New Zealand and global rugby audience is thirsting for this Tour and we’re delighted to confirm that SuperSport will continue to bring rugby’s biggest matches into homes in Africa,” said CEO of South African Rugby Union, Rian Oberholzer.

The Stormers will be looking to emulate Western Province’s famous 1976 victory when they host the All Blacks, writes MARK KEOHANE.

Writing for TimesLIVE, Keohane says Friday night’s tour opener is far more than a pre-season fixture for the Stormers, with coach John Dobson preparing his squad to embrace a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity against a powerful All Blacks side selected to honour the occasion.

“Friday night in Cape Town is going to be a ripper,” he writes.

Keohane recalls WP’s famous 12-11 victory over the All Blacks 30 years ago, saying that triumph has been a recurring theme within the Stormers camp this week as the club chases a place in South African rugby folklore.

He notes that Dave Rennie has named a 648-cap match 23 featuring 21 Test players, while the Stormers have retained the core of the pack that reached last season’s URC semi-finals.

Keohane also highlights the contrast between 20-year-old debutant Yaqeen Ahmed and veteran campaigners Deon Fourie and Dewaldt Duvenhage.

“What an occasion for the three of them individually and what an occasion for the city of Cape Town and the Stormers as a club.”

Keohane also turns his attention to the Springboks’ clash with Argentina in Buenos Aires, where Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu returns from injury.

The All Blacks’ tour of South Africa and their four matches against the United Rugby Championship teams means the focus will shift somewhat from the Currie Cup over the coming weeks.

But, “the show must go on” and the Premier Division continues on Saturday and Sunday with four compelling matches for fans to look forward to. And there’s plenty at stake for the eight sides who’ll be in action. Just three points currently separate the top five sides.

The log leaders, the Lions, will be first up on Saturday in what is sure to be a big test of their credentials.

They may be riding high at the moment and coming off a good win against the Bulls (42-19), but Griquas will challenge them big time in Kimberley. They, too, are coming off a strong outing against the Cheetahs (24-21) and are second on the log.

And let’s not forget there is a bit of history between these teams … Griquas beat the Lions 27-25 in last year’s final after the Lions had held home advantage.

But, the men from Joburg will know they have the edge over Griquas in their last five Currie Cup meetings, 3-2. However, no team goes to Kimberley and picks up an easy win. It will be tough.

In the second game on Saturday, the Bulls and Pumas clash in Pretoria, with the hosts desperate to register a win. They have lost all three matches up to now and find themselves down in last place on the eight-team log with one point.

The Pumas meanwhile ended Boland’s winning start to the campaign in Wellington last weekend and will be out to continue that form. They hold a 3-2 advantage over the Bulls in their last five meetings.

In the final game Saturday, the Sharks welcome Boland to Durban and they will be desperate for a second win to move up from seventh on the log. Hawies Fourie’s Boland will be going all out to hit back after last weekend’s win, but this is their first match on the road this season and they’ll have to now show what they’re made of.

On Sunday, the Stormers host the Cheetahs at Athlone Stadium and it’s anyone’s guess who’ll take this one as both have blown hot and cold up to now.
