Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has found an easy scapegoat in Andre Onana after losing 1-2 to his Trabzonspor in Saturday’s Turkish Süper Lig clash.

The Turkish manager accused the on-loan Manchester United custodian of time wasting in the top-of-the table clash.

In a post-match interview with his club’s media, Buruk took on the Manchester United former number one after the defeat undermined Galatasaray FC’s Süper Lig title push.

The coach said time-wasting broke the rhythm of the match while signing the Cameroonian as having contributed much to winding down of the clock with delaying tactics.

Why Galatasaray mentor faulted Onana

“Especially in the last part, the frequent stoppages of the game disrupted our rhythm,” Buruk told his club’s media.

“The referee’s late yellow card and the lack of extra-time also affected the flow of the game. Onana used the time of the game. A yellow card came too late. The game was almost never played in extra time. We were settled in the opponent’s half. We looked for goals with one-on-ones, long shots and side crosses.

“As a matter of fact, we found the goal in this way, and we had a chance from a set piece. The second half was much better than the first half, but in general it was a game where we were below our own level of play.”

The Manchester United keeper was penalised with a yellow card during the match which saw Galatasaray FC finishing the game with 10 men following the dismissal of Abdulkerim Bardacki.

Apart from the delaying tactics, Onana played his part in ensuring the victory with great saves between the sticks to complement fellow Africans for his club.

How Onuachu and Nwaiwu complemented efforts of Onana

Goals from the Nigerians Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu saw Trabzonspor secure the victory over Galatasaray at Papara Park.

The hosts took the lead in the fourth minute through an Onuachu header, which kept Trabzonspor ahead going into the halftime break.
