Dupont finally ventures south with France

France have bolstered their squad for the Nations Championship by calling up nine players involved in the Top 14 final, including captain Antoine Dupont. catcross.biz

The star scrumhalf is in line to make his first appearance for Les Bleus in the southern hemisphere since 2017 (against the Springboks in Durban) after being added to Fabien Galthié’s group following Toulouse’s 28-20 victory against Montpellier at the Stade de France.

The new arrivals will not feature in France’s opening Test against the All Blacks in Christchurch on Saturday, but are available for the matches against the Wallabies in Brisbane (11 July) and Japan in Tokyo (18 July).

Dupont is joined by fellow Toulouse players Peato Mauvaka (hooker), Emmanuel Meafou (lock), Alexandre Roumat (flank), Romain Ntamack (flyhalf) and Kalvin Gourgues (centre), while Montpellier trio Florian Verhaeghe (lock), Lenni Nouchi (loose forward) and Auguste Cadot (centre) have also been drafted into the squad.

STRASBOURG- Saïdou Sow quitte définitivement le Clermont Foot à l’issue de son prêt. Le défenseur central international guinéen de 23 ans est retourné dans son club d’appartenance, le RC Strasbourg.

Il avait été prêté sans option d’achat par le club alsacien lors du mercato hivernal. Après une longue période de convalescence liée à une grave blessure au genou, il a pu disputer la seconde moitié de saison sous les couleurs Clermontoises, participant activement à plusieurs rencontres de Ligue 2. Saidou Sow a inscrit un but en douze matchs joués en tout.

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes South Africa have already surpassed expectations by reaching the World Cup knockout stages, but insists his side are hungry for more success in their historic run.

“We want to win the game tomorrow (today) . If we can show the same mentality and the same level as against Korea Republic, then I think we have a chance to win, even though Canada is a very good team.

“But if we should reach the next round, then I’d say that’s really a miracle for Bafana Bafana.”
