Golf Park to Glory: Wakhu rules Ruiru greens to win PGK Equator Tour fifth leg
NAIROBI, Kenya, July 19, 2026 – David Wakhu of Golf Park emerged victorious at the fifth leg of the PGK Equator Tour, held at Ruiru Sports Club on Sunday.
Wakhu carded a four-round total of 274 (-10) to clinch the title, finishing ahead of a competitive field of 50 players.
The Golf Park player has enjoyed an impressive run of form this season and currently sits fifth on the Order of Merit standings with 1800 points. fish-roadgame.online
“Compared to last season, this year has been much better for me. I have continued to work hard and stay focused on competing at the highest level. The Ruiru leg was quite challenging because everyone was fighting for the top spot but I am really happy to come away with the win.” Wakhu said.
He added: “I put a lot of work into my game in preparation for this tournament, and I am glad it paid off. I would like to thank my team for their unwavering support, and I hope to maintain this momentum throughout the rest of the season.”
Greg Snow of Muthaiga Golf Club finished second after returning a four-round total of 275 (-9), while Safaricom-sponsored golfer Samuel Chege continued his impressive campaign by sharing third place with John Lejirma on 277 (-7).
Dismas Indiza finished fifth on 279 (-5), while Mohit Mediratta and Malik Taimur shared sixth place on 280 (-4). Mutahi Kibugu finished eighth on 283 (-1), while Michael Karanga and Jastas Madoya tied in the ninth place on 284 (par).
With the Ruiru leg concluded, the PGK Equator Tour now heads to Nakuru in two weeks’ time for the sixth leg, where players will continue their quest for valuable Order of Merit points as they chase qualification for the Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

L’Espagne n’est toutefois pas en reste. Les champions d’Europe ont marqué 4 de leurs 13 buts sur coups de pied arrêtés. Si leur identité repose avant tout sur la possession et les combinaisons au sol, ils savent également exploiter les phases arrêtées grâce à la qualité de leurs tireurs et au jeu aérien de plusieurs défenseurs.
Un détail qui pourrait décider du champion du monde
Dans une finale où chaque détail peut être déterminant, ces situations pourraient peser lourd. Face à deux défenses parmi les plus solides du tournoi, les occasions dans le jeu risquent d’être rares. Le réalisme sur corner ou sur coup franc pourrait donc faire la différence.
L’Argentine semble disposer d’un léger avantage dans ce domaine. Si l’Albiceleste parvient à obtenir plusieurs coups de pied arrêtés, elle pourrait bien trouver la clé pour faire tomber une Espagne jusqu’ici impressionnante de maîtrise.

Equipe de France : Cherki, une attitude et un apport remis en question
Après 45 minutes où lui et le onze tricolore ont sombré face à l’Angleterre, Cherki a terminé sa Coupe du monde par un remplacement à la pause et une défaite des Bleus, 6-4, pour échouer au pied du podium.
Sélectionné pour sa belle saison avec Manchester City, Rayan Cherki est resté cantonné à un rôle de remplaçant derrière les indéboulonnables Mbappé, Olise ou Dembélé. Pas forcément titulaires à chaque rencontre, Doué et Barcola ont eu plus de temps de jeu que l’ancien lyonnais. Un joueur talentueux, intégré à la vie de groupe des Bleus, mais non décisif sur le terrain, 0 but et 0 passe décisive. Une Coupe du monde ratée selon Ouest-France, RMC Sport ou encore l’Equipe.
Malgré sept matchs disputés lors de ce Mondial, Cherki n’a jamais joué une rencontre en intégralité et ne s’est montré décisif malgré le potentiel vu en matchs amicaux. Plus que son apport, son attitude a aussi parfois été montré du doigt. Lucide après l’élimination contre l’Espagne, l’ancien gone a également affiché publiquement sa frustration en matchs de poules, mais aussi hier soir avec un geste d’humeur à l’encontre de Didier Deschamps lors de la pause fraicheur et une remarque tactique du sélectionneur.
Sorti à la pause comme trois autres de ses coéquipiers et passé au travers du match avec 4-0 en défaveur de la France dans l’enceinte de Miami, il a assisté sur la touche à une remontée insuffisante de son équipe et a ainsi vu l’Angleterre s’adjuger la troisième place. Contre les Three Lions, il aura eu le plus de temps de jeu avec 45 minutes et compte depuis juin 2025, 14 sélections et 2 buts en Bleu.

Mallett: TMO a blight on rugby
Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett says TMO interventions are robbing the game of its rhythm.
Speaking on the Talking Boks podcast, Mallett questioned interventions that saw three Junior Boks tries ruled out in the Junior World Championship final against France in Tbilisi on Saturday night.
“For foul play, they are allowed to go back as far as they want,” Mallett said. “In fact, in the U20s, they went back a number of phases to the winger having his foot out as he passed inside and that try was disallowed. It was a beautiful line from Samuel Badenhorst, who scored a wonderful try and then it was brought back.
“It must have been at least three or four phases … so they were going back that length of time.”

Mallett also questioned why Yaqeen Ahmed’s late try was ruled out after the TMO told the referee that the flyhalf had jumped over a defender.
“Why wouldn’t you look at the tackle from the French guy when Yaqeen Ahmed scored his try? It didn’t look to be a wrap; he just dived with his head and shoulder straight at Ahmed’s knees.
“I mean, it was a perfectly good try to me. When TMOs are looking for reasons to disallow a try, that is really stupid.”

The former Bok boss insisted TMO reviews should only overturn “clear and obvious” errors.
“By all means go back if the ball is out, if there is a clear knock-on, if there is a clear bit of foul play, but when the ref has seen everything and awarded the try, to try and then go back is just really irritating.
“It’s a blight on rugby at the moment because my heart just drops. After a try when you see the guy going, ‘OK, we are going to go and have a look back’, it just really drops.
“It just feels as though there is no rhythm in the game. We can’t get the game going.
“The great thing about rugby is it’s a game which keeps continuing, but for me these breaks are not really doing rugby a service at the moment.”

Mallett also admitted he is relieved not to be coaching in the modern era after Italy coach Gonzalo Quesada was sanctioned for criticising match officials.
“I broke down a referee’s door once to get inside and shout at him after a performance, Italy against Australia,” he said.
“I had to be taken out by security afterwards, so I would have been in a lot of trouble if I was coaching nowadays.”

Currie Cup roundup: Faf helps Cheetahs edge Lions, Boland shock the Bulls
Two-time World Cup winner Faf de Klerk, in the colours of his new team, the Cheetahs, helped the Bloemfontein side edge the Lions in a round one Currie Cup game played in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
The Cheetahs won a close match 29-27 to get their campaign off on a winning note.
Likhona Finca, the young centre from the Lions, scored a hat-trick for his team but a late penalty from Cheetahs flyhalf Jaco van der Walt gave the hosts the win.
The Cheetahs’ tries were scored by Marko Janse van Rensburg, Ramon Uys, Victor Sekekete and Cohen Jasper. The Lions’ other try was scored by Latica Nela.
In Wellington, the Boland, as they did last year with a number of big results, shocked the Bulls 24-10 to again announce themselves as a team to be taken seriously this season.
In difficult, muddy conditions, Boland scored two tries by Joshua Eras and Dayan van der Westhuizen, while they were also awarded a penalty try. The Bulls’ only try came from Shaun Schürmann.
On Friday, in the first two matches of round one, the Stormers beat Griquas 25-19 in Cape Town while in Mbombela, the Pumas were shocked at home, going down 24-26 to the Sharks.
This coming weekend, the Cheetahs welcome the Sharks, the Lions host the Pumas, Griquas welcome the Bulls and Boland entertain the Stormers.
