Sous les ordres de Diego Simeone, il a disputé 469 rencontres, inscrit 88 buts et remporté plusieurs trophées, dont la Liga en 2021, la Ligue Europa en 2018 et la Supercoupe de l’UEFA la même année.

Son aventure avec les Tigres s’est achevée sur une désillusion en finale de la Coupe des champions de la CONCACAF. Le club mexicain s’était incliné face à Toluca à l’issue de la séance de tirs au but, dans ce qui restera également comme le dernier match d’André-Pierre Gignac sous le maillot des Tigres.

Désormais, Angel Correa revient en Argentine avec l’ambition d’apporter son expérience et son palmarès à River Plate, l’un des clubs les plus prestigieux du continent sud-américain.

Enzo Maresca said Friday it is a “privilege” to follow Pep Guardiola as manager of Manchester City.

The Italian also expects to begin his first season in charge of the Premier League giants with Rodri still in his squad, although the World Cup Golden Ball winner requires back surgery.

Former Chelsea and Leicester boss Maresca was named as Guardiola’s successor after the Catalan stepped down at the end of last season, having won 20 trophies during a superbly successful 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

“I’ve said many times that I consider Pep probably the best coach in the world in the last 20, 25 years,” Maresca told reporters in his first press conference as City manager. “But again, it’s a challenge. It’s nice. It’s a privilege.”

Many clubs have struggled following the exit of serial trophy-winning managers, with both Manchester United and Arsenal experiencing a downturn following the departures of Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, respectively.

“The history of (following) the manager with many years in the same club always struggled a little bit — after Sir Alex, after Arsene,” said Maresca. “It’s a challenge to try to do the right things immediately for this organisation, for the fans, for everyone.”

Maresca, 46, is now in his third stint at City after coaching the club’s elite development squad and serving as Guardiola’s assistant during the 2022/23 treble-winning season.

And he believes the strong foundations at the club will help him build on the success enjoyed under Guardiola.

“I think the organisation is the main thing,” he added. “This club, this organisation, they had three managers in 17 years. This is not normal, it doesn’t happen often.

“So this is probably one of the (reasons) that I’m confident we can do a great job,” said Maresca, speaking a day after England midfielder Elliot Anderson completed his reported £116 million ($154 million) move to City from Nottingham Forest.

– ‘Every manager wants Rodri’ –

Spain midfielder Rodri, 30, meanwhile, has entered the final year of his City contract and has been linked with Real Madrid.

“We have to say that around big players there is always speculation,” said Maresca. “I’m not worried about that. I think it’s normal.

“Because they won the World Cup, and he was the best player or one of the best players, I think every manager wants to have Rodri.

“But now surgery on Monday, and he needs holiday. He needs to rest. He needs to recover and then he will be back here with us.”

Chelsea were unhappy with the manner of Maresca’s New Year’s Day departure from Stamford Bridge amid speculation linking him with City.

A smiling Maresca, however, said Friday: “I feel quite lucky in terms of my former clubs — Leicester, Chelsea — I think we did a great job.

“In both clubs, the identity of the team was clear, the success of the team was clear, and I feel very lucky to be part of these clubs.

“But now we are here. That is the most important thing, just about City. Nothing to add.”

Kaizer Chiefs attacker Inacio Miguel says the Toyota Cup presents the perfect opportunity for Amakhosi to make amends for last year’s disappointment.

The Glamour Boys fell to Asante Kotoko 3-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the cup last season.

Amakhosi will look to redeem themselves when they face Zimbabwean giants Scottland FC in Rustenburg.

Miguel insists the team is fully focused on lifting the trophy while using the encounter as ideal preparation ahead of the start of the 2026-27 Betway Premiership campaign.

“It may be styled as a friendly match but to me, there’s a trophy to win,” Miguel told his club’s official website.

“For our fans as well the team, we want to redeem ourselves after not managing to win it last year. We have the opportunity to do that because the Khosi Nation deserves it.

“We are taking this match seriously because the league starts next weekend and we intend to hit the ground running. This is the perfect warm-up.”

Top 14 outfit Lyon have secured the services from next season of one of South African rugby’s versatile and celebrated backline talents.

The French club on Friday confirmed the signing of playmaker Sanele Nohamba, who has ended his stint with Japanese Top League side Shizuoka Blue Revs.

The former Junior Springboks scrumhalf, who can also play flyhalf, made just five appearances across two injury-hit seasons in Japan.

Lyon announced the two-year deal of Nohamba on Instagram, with the likes of former teammates Wandisile Simelane, Emmanuel Tshituka, Madosh Tambwe and Fez Mbatha responding to the post in the comments.

Nohamba previously played for the Sharks between 2019 and 2022 before reviving his career at the Lions, where he became the SA Vodacom URC Player of the Season in 2023-24.

The Sharks had reportedly shown interest in re-signing the 27-year-old as a replacement for Springbok No 9 Grant Williams, who has joined the Kobelco Kobe Steelers, amid concerns over the future of fellow Bok scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse after a series of concussions.

Auteur d’une Coupe du monde remarquée avec le Cap-Vert, Vozinha s’apprête à relever un nouveau défi. Le gardien de 40 ans va rejoindre Colo Colo, comme l’a confirmé vendredi le président du club chilien, Anibal Mosa.

Le dirigeant a annoncé que l’international cap-verdien arriverait prochainement au Chili afin de passer sa visite médicale avant de parapher son contrat et d’être présenté officiellement au Stade Monumental.

« Vozinha va devenir un joueur de Colo Colo, il viendra au Chili dans les prochains jours, il passera les examens de rigueur et sera ensuite présenté, ici, au Stade Monumental », a déclaré Anibal Mosa.

Lors du dernier Mondial, le portier des Requins Bleus a été l’une des grandes révélations du tournoi. Ses nombreuses interventions décisives, notamment face à l’Espagne (0-0) en phase de groupes, ont largement contribué au parcours historique du Cap-Vert. La sélection insulaire a atteint les seizièmes de finale, ne s’inclinant qu’après prolongation contre l’Argentine (3-2 a.p.).

Le futur gardien de Colo Colo possède un parcours atypique. Après des passages à Chypre, en Slovaquie, en Moldavie et en Angola, il n’avait signé son premier contrat professionnel qu’à l’âge de 26 ans. Il quittera le GD Chaves, pensionnaire de la deuxième division portugaise, pour découvrir le championnat chilien.
