Lautaro relance puis sauve l’Inter

Rugumayo Wins Maiden Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing Title

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 19, 2026 – Uganda’s Ronald Rugumayo completed a memorable week on home soil by winning his maiden Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing title after finishing top of the Pearl of Africa Golf Series at Entebbe Golf Club on Saturday.

Rugumayo, who started the final round at the top of the leaderboard on 11-under-par, carded a composed two-under-par 69 to finish the tournament on 13-under-par 200 and claim the title.

The reigning Uganda Open champion made a strong start to his final round, picking up birdies on the first, fifth, seventh and ninth holes.

He dropped a shot on the eighth before adding another birdie on the 14th.

Bogeys on the 10th and 17th saw him finish the round two-under-par, enough to maintain his lead and secure the title.

“It feels really good to win this tournament, especially here at home in front of the Ugandan fans. I knew I had to stay patient and focus on my own game because there were very good players behind me. I’m happy with how I handled the final round and it means a lot to get my first Sunshine Development Tour title,” he said.

Rugumayo takes home 400 USD (approximately Ksh 500,000) and 210 Order of Merit points.

Malawi’s Paul Adam Chidale and Nigeria’s Godwin Okoko finished tied for second on nine-under-par 204.

Chidale produced a superb five-under-par 66 in the final round to register his best finish on the Tour.

He made birdies on the fifth, 13th and 14th holes, while two eagles on the 11th and 15th helped him climb the leaderboard.

“I’m very pleased with the way I played today. The eagles gave me a big boost and I managed to stay focused throughout the round. This is my best finish on the Tour, so I’m happy with the result and the way I competed this week,” Chidale said.

Okoko, who had started the final round in second position, carded a one-under-par 70 to finish on the same 9-under-par total.

He made birdies on the 11th, 14th and 18th holes, but bogeys on the eighth and 16th prevented him from finishing second outright.

“It was a good week overall. I would have liked to finish a little stronger today, but I’m still happy to finish among the top players. There are positives to take from the tournament and I’ll build on this going into the next events,” he said.

Chidale and Okoko each take home 1,820 USD (approximately Ksh 235,000) alongside 144 Order of Merit points.

England’s Matt Millar and South Africa’s Slade Pickering finished tied for fourth on 8-under-par 205, while South Africa’s Musiwalo Nethunzwi finished sixth on seven-under-par 206.

Kenya’s Greg Snow was the best-placed Kenyan, finishing in a six-way tie for seventh on two-under-par 211.

Snow, who had moved into contention after a five-under-par second round, carded a final-round 75.

He was joined on the same total by Uganda’s Abraham Ainamani, David Kamulindwa and Willy Deus Kitata, as well as South Africa’s Ruan de Smidt and Thabiso Ngcobo.

The Pearl of Africa Golf Series was the sixth leg of the Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing and marked the Tour’s first event in Uganda.

The tournament brought together 109 professional and elite amateur golfers from across Africa, with Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points on offer.

‘Why youngsters’ exit from Afcon U-20 qualifiers should worry football lovers in Kenya’

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 19, 2026 – National under 20 football team coach Gilbert Selebwa believes their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers on Saturday is symptomatic of the poor youth development structures in the country.

The gaffer says there is need for a radical shift in talent identification and nurturing to ensure constant production of top quality players from the grassroots.

“We need to have a conveyor belt where we can be able to say that we have a group of players who started at under-15, progressed to under-17 and then they progressed to under-20. I think maybe that is where we are lacking at this particular point,” Selebwa said.

He added: “I think we’ll have to impress upon the big shots taking care of Kenyan football that if we can develop a conveyor belt to enable players transition from under 15s to 17s to 20s, then have coaches going to the grassroots to identify them, then we can have a paradigm shift in the way we develop our talents.”

The experienced tactician was speaking in the aftermath of a dark day for Kenyan football in which the 2026/27 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League was once again postponed due to raging court battles over the guidelines applied in the previous season.

It couldn’t have gone any worse for the game as Selebwa’s under 20 side bowed out with a 1-1 draw against South Sudan at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, a leveller in the second half not enough to guarantee passage into the knockout stages.

It followed their 2-0 loss to Burundi in their opener at the same venue on Thursday, their fortunes a stark contrast to their predecessors who earned Kenya’s first ever slot at last year’s Afcon after finishing second in the Cecafa qualifiers.

In his defence, Selebwa pointed out that the current Rising Stars have not played together as much as would have been appropriate to enable them gel well as a team.

“I think what people need to understand is that building a team is a process. This is the first time that I am handling a national team. About 70 percent of the players who played today have never played at this level, okay? A lot was expected from us, I know that…but if you look at the way we’ve picked the players, almost 90 percent of the players who played in the last year’s AFCON are not within the team,” he pointed out.

All water under the bridge as the Rising Stars pack their bags to return home from what has been an uninspiring performance at the tournament.

With the circus surrounding Kenyan football, the youngsters exit from a tournament many expected them to dominate should be a wake up call to the higher-ups.

Save for the national under 17 women’s team, Kenya age group national sides have been nothing home to write about.

Former Boks coach Nienaber coy on next move

Former Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber has refused to shed light on his future with Leinster, admitting that his next move remains up in the air.

Nienaber joined Leinster after the Boks’ 2023 World Cup triumph and is heading into his fourth season as the Irish province’s senior coach. However, his future has come under the spotlight with head coach Leo Cullen set to step down at the end of the 2026-27 season and Nienaber reportedly among those linked with the position.

There has also been speculation that Nienaber could return to the Springboks, with a six-month break clause understood to be part of his Leinster contract.

Asked whether the 2026-27 season could be his last in Dublin, Nienaber joked about the possibility before stressing that no decision has been made.

“You want me to go? You want me gone? I can use that six-month thing …” he told the Roadshow Series with Off the Ball.

Nienaber then offered little clarity on what comes next, saying the relevant parties still need to reach an agreement.

‘An ongoing process’

“No, it’s an ongoing process, like everybody would say. We will have to wait and see how things work out, and when everybody is aligned, all the stakeholders are happy and aligned, then they’ll probably announce whatever is going to happen going forward.

“When I came over here [to Dublin], it was [because] I wanted to spend more time with my family. With the Springboks you are on average between 150 and 170 nights not in your bed [a year] because they don’t have a home base, so they travel a lot. With Leinster, we are probably 50 days not in our own beds. You do a lot of travelling but you are home a lot, so that was nice.”

Nienaber remains firmly focused on his work with Leinster, who begin their URC title defence against the Lions at Ellis Park on 26 September before travelling to Durban to face the Sharks on 3 October.
