Morocco FA welcomes and appreciates CAF decision to award AFCON 2025 title

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has officially expressed its appreciation and welcome for the decision made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Committee to award Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

In an official statement, the Moroccan FA praised the ruling, which came after the controversial final between Morocco national football team and Senegal national football team. The match, held in Morocco in recent months, witnessed dramatic events, including Senegal’s temporary withdrawal in protest of a penalty awarded to Morocco.

Although Senegal later resumed the match—during which Morocco missed the penalty and Senegal went on to win the title on the pitch—the Appeal Committee ultimately ruled in favor of Morocco, granting them the title.

The Moroccan FA stated: “The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announces its welcome and appreciation for the contents of this decision by the CAF Appeal Committee, which reinforces respect for the rules and ensures the necessary stability for the proper conduct of international competitions.”

The federation emphasized that, since the events of the final and its temporary suspension, its stance had consistently focused on the strict application of regulations. It clarified that its appeal was not aimed at questioning sporting performance, but rather at ensuring fairness and adherence to competition rules.

The statement further noted that following the earlier decision by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee—which Morocco had appealed—CAF acknowledged that applicable regulations had not been properly respected.

Reaffirming its commitment to legal procedures, the Moroccan FA highlighted its full cooperation throughout the process, including submitting observations and attending all hearings to defend its rights within the established regulatory framework.

The federation concluded that this decision would help clarify rules for similar cases in the future and strengthen the credibility and organization of African football. It also reiterated its intention to continue advocating for the strict and fair application of regulations in all competitions, while looking ahead to upcoming major events, including the next Women’s AFCON and the FIFA World Cup.

Finally, the Moroccan FA extended its appreciation to all national teams that participated in the tournament hosted in Morocco, describing it as a significant moment in the march of African football.
