MAC Appeals Michigan-WMU Game Result

The Mid-American Conference has appealed the outcome of the Michigan-Western Michigan football game, asking the NCAA and CFP to recognize Western Michigan as the actual winner.

The MAC filed the appeal on Tuesday, claiming replay protocol wasn't properly followed when Michigan scored the winning touchdown on a Hail Mary pass with one second remaining. According to MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher, the Big Ten replay crew incorrectly relied on an internal clock feed instead of the game clock displayed on television, which showed zeroes after the first Hail Mary attempt. syntagm.co.za

Steinbrecher stated that if the established protocol had been followed, no additional play would have been awarded and Western Michigan would have won 12-7. The Broncos initially accepted the Big Ten's explanation but changed their position after further review, with the MAC now requesting the NCAA and CFP to recognize Western Michigan as the actual winner.
