India endured a disappointing outing in the Skeet qualifiers at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy, with none of the shooters managing to secure a place in the finals. The Shotgun World Cup finals are currently underway at the Trap Concaverde shooting range. Qualification rounds were held across three days before the final list of participants proceeded to the finals.
In Men’s Skeet category, two-time World Cup gold medalist, Christian Elliot from USA, topped the charts with a cumulative total of 124, followed by Gabriele Rosseti from Italy and Hancock Vincent from the USA – all with scores of 124 each. The former has multiple records to his name and is a two-time Olympic games gold medalist while the latter is World Number 1 in men’s Skeet and has four Olympic games Gold and one silver to his name.
Five shooters finished with 124, after which the ranking was settled with a shoot off round. Korea’s Kim Minsu and Italy’s Palmucci Valerio were the other two to qualify with scores of 124. China’s ISSF World Cup’s two-time gold medalist Hector Andres Flores Barahona, Kazakhstan’s Alexandr Mukhamediyev and Italy’s Erik Pittini qualified with cumulative scores of 123 with a shoot off round taking place between them as well, to settle the rankings.
From India, Mairaj Khan Ahmed was the highest scorer who secured the 16th rank with a cumulative score of 122 by the end of day 3. The three-time ISSF World Cup Gold medalist and Olympian, Mairaj missed out by a whisker, holding the 2nd rank till day 2, even after finishing 4 rounds with a score of 99. On the other hand, Bhavtegh Singh Gill, Jyotiraditya Singh Sisodiya and Sukhbir Singh Harika secured 45th, 103rd and 105th ranks respecitively.
In Women’s Skeet category, Sweden’s Larsson Victoria, world number 8, topped the chart with 122 points, followed by USA’s Dania Jo Vizzi who secured the 3rd rank with 121 points. The others to qualify are China’s Yiting Jiang with a total of 121, Italy’s Sara Bongini, USA’s Samantha Simonton with scores of 120. The other three finalists are Amber Jo Rutter from Great Britain, Slovakia’s Danka Hrbekova and Assem Orynbay from Kazakhstan with a score of 118.
Paris Olympian and world number 22, Raiza Dhillon was India’s top scorer, securing the 25th position with a cumulative score of 116. Alongside her, Vanshika Tiwari secured the 59th rank, with Maheshwari Chauhan and Mansi Raghuvanshi securing the 62 and 67th rank respectively.
