IPL 2026: Hazlewood remains uncertain over regular appearances this season

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Josh Hazlewood has remained tight-lipped about his availability and the chances of him playing matches regularly.

The right-arm pacer’s remarks came after RCB’s comfortable five-wicket win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He returned figures of 1 for 20, maintaining an impressive economy rate of five runs per over in a high-scoring format, and also had LSG captain Rishabh Pant retire hurt after hitting him on the elbow during an unsuccessful attempt to deal with the Australian’s probing spell.

Hazlewood has played only two matches so far this season. In his first appearance, although he dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, the tall paceman was taken apart by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and RCB lost that game. He did not travel to Mumbai for the match against the Mumbai Indians (MI), with Jacob Duffy playing in his place.

When asked whether he would play all the remaining matches during the post-match presentation ceremony, Hazlewood said:
“The plan is to hopefully keep playing. Our schedule is pretty good from here on, so fingers crossed I can keep playing.”

Rasikh Salam was the most successful bowler for RCB against LSG, taking four wickets in his four overs. In the previous game, he also took wickets against MI. The uncapped Indian pacer earned praise from his senior teammate.

“Yeah, he obviously missed the first few games, but he’s been selected in the last couple and has been training exceptionally well. He’s got some nice skills, and we’ve seen that in the last few games. He bowls the tough overs as well. It’s a big tournament for Rasikh,” Hazlewood said.
