IND vs AFG: “He is an amazing talent” – Zadran on Sooryavanshi ahead of T20I series

Afghanistan’s T20I captain Ibrahim Zadran admitted that his team have taken note of India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of the three-match T20I series in New Delhi. The newly appointed captain also hopes Afghanistan can finally register their first win over India in the format.

Sooryavanshi, who has continued to make headlines since the IPL, has caught the attention of Afghanistan’s players, with some of them having already faced the 15-year-old in the tournament.

“He is an amazing talent,” Zadran said at the pre-match press conference. “Recently, he played better cricket in the IPL; he has been performing at a different level in cricket events. We thought about him, and we have got that knowledge from those guys who have played against him in the IPL. We have already watched his videos. We just try to keep it very simple for ourselves, just to execute the right plans at the right time against him.”

Afghanistan are yet to beat India in T20Is, but Zadran believes his team can change that in this three-match series.

“We have played better cricket against India,” he said. “In 2024, we had two Super Overs against them in the T20 series. At the ICC event, we have played better cricket against them. As you mentioned, we have never beaten them. Hopefully, we are going to play a good series, win a game, win a series against them.”

The Afghanistan skipper also feels that his side are familiar with Indian conditions, which could work in their favour.

“We have played enough cricket here in India,” he said. “We all know the conditions, how to play and how to adjust ourselves. We have played a series here against India, we have played the T20 World Cup, and I could say we have played 50-over World Cups as well. We know the conditions really well, how to play, and we just need to execute the plan really well according to the opposition.”
Zadran also pointed out that his team will focus on execution rather than the result.

“It’s all about execution of the plan, giving 100 per cent. Try to make things easy for ourselves, not complicated,” Zadran said. “We are just trying to give 100 per cent. Don’t think about the result, just try to think about the process, how we are going to deliver. I am sure we will have a better series.”

The first T20I will be played on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
