Anish Bhanwala’s hopes of winning a medal in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol went up in smoke after a poor qualifying series. He was one of two shooters eliminated after the first 15 shots.

Four shooters were tied on 11 hits, but Anish was the one to leave the range, having recorded the lowest qualifying total among the eight shooters, with 576.

South Korea’s Jong-Ho Song had finished fourth with 580, but with two of his compatriots ahead of him, he missed out on the final while Anish, who finished ninth, progressed.

Anish had started the day with a total of 290, but managed scores of 96, 96 and 94 across the three stages on Thursday.

South Korea’s Gun Hyeok-Lee won gold after a second shoot-off against China’s Lianbofan Su. Both finished on 32 hits, having qualified first and second respectively.

Pakistan’s Ghulam Mustafa Bashir took bronze, securing Pakistan’s first-ever medal in the event.
