Earlier, Dhruv Jurel delivered a knock of 51 runs before returning to the pavilion. Facing 68 balls, he smashed four boundaries and a maximum. Ravindra Jadeja managed to score 13 runs in 25 balls, including a boundary, whereas Manav Suthar registered 24 runs off 43 balls, with the help of two boundaries. Mohammed Siraj also scored 11 runs in 15 balls, including a maximum.

Devdutt Padikkal returned to the pavilion after delivering a stunning knock of 167 runs. Facing 230 deliveries, the left-handed batsman smashed 15 boundaries and a maximum. Playing his first Test since featuring against Australia in Perth in 2024, the 26-year-old left-hander showcased his growing maturity at the international level. Earlier in the day, Padikkal combined with KL Rahul for a dominant 150-run second-wicket stand.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant managed to score 39 runs in 62 balls, with the help of four boundaries and a maximum.

Rahul, who retired hurt on the previous day, returned with his willow on Day 2. The right-handed batsman garnered 82 runs off 175 deliveries. His knock was laced with 10 boundaries and a maximum. Team India's opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal departed after scoring 32 runs in 37 balls, including five boundaries.

Skipper Shubman Gill managed to score 16 runs off 28 balls, including two boundaries.

Sri Lanka's Prabath Jayasuriya bagged four wickets by conceding 109 runs in 39 overs. Keshara Nuwantha also returned with the figures of three wickets for 175 runs in 39 overs. Asitha Fernando managed to pick up two wickets and leaked 63 runs in 17.4 overs. Lahiru Kumara, captain Dhananjaya de Silva, and Sonal Dinusha went wicketless in Team India's first innings in the first Test match.

New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): Outer Delhi Warriors produced a strong batting performance to defeat Purani Dilli 6 by 21 runs in a high-scoring Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 fixture on Sunday.

Batting first, the Warriors posted a huge 219/5 in 20 overs, with Yajas Sharma, Akshay Saini and Harsh Tyagi playing key roles.

The Warriors got off to a flying start as openers Priyansh Arya and Yajas Sharma added 120 runs for the first wicket in just over nine overs. Arya played a quick knock of 30 off 21 balls (with a four and two sixes) before being dismissed, but Yajas continued to attack the Purani Dilli 6 bowlers.

Yajas was in complete control and kept scoring at a rapid pace. He eventually fell for an excellent 86 off 36 balls (with 10 fours and five sixes), but the Warriors continued to score freely despite losing a few wickets in the middle overs.

With the innings needing a strong finish, Harsh Tyagi and Akshay Saini stepped up and added 55 runs for the fifth wicket. Tyagi scored 32 off 15 balls (with a four and three sixes), while Saini provided the final push with a quick-fire 49* off 23 balls (with three fours and sixes each) to take the Warriors to 219/5.

For Purani Dilli 6, Digvesh Rathi was the standout bowler, returning figures of 3/25 in his four overs.

Chasing 220, Purani Dilli 6 also made an impressive start. Openers Samarth Seth and Aryan Gaur put together 104 runs for the first wicket, giving their side hope of chasing down the big target.

Gaur led the attack with a brilliant 65 off 37 balls (with six fours and four sixes), while Seth contributed 42 off 24 balls (with four boundaries and two sixes). However, the Warriors fought back strongly once the opening partnership was broken.

Aman Chaudhary played a key role in turning the game in the Warriors’ favour, picking up three wickets in his first three overs and eventually completing his spell with figures of 4/38 in four overs. The wickets triggered a mini-collapse and put Purani Dilli 6 under pressure.

Lalit Yadav (29 in 23 balls, with two fours and a six) and Ashwini Chillar (19 in 13) then tried to rebuild the innings, but the required run rate continued to climb. Yadav was eventually dismissed hit wicket by Harsh Tyagi for 29 off 23 balls.

With Purani Dilli 6 needing 41 runs from the final over, the result was virtually decided as Outer Delhi Warriors managed an easy win.

Outer Delhi Warriors are at the second spot in the table, with five wins, two losses and a tie, giving them 11 points, with Purani Dilli 6 at third spot with nine points. (ANI)

Birmingham [UK], August 17 (ANI): World record-holding, multi-time Olympic and world champion pole vault superstar Mondo Duplantis broke the championship record to capture the European Championship for the fourth successive time at Birmingham.

On Sunday, Duplantis cleared 6.15 metres. The 27-year-old Swedish star and Emmanouil Karalis were the only athletes to clear 6.00m.

Duplantis eventually equalled the European Championship record of 6.10 m before breaking it to set a new record of 6.15 m, as per Olympics.com.

After the championship record and victory were sealed, there were expectations that Duplantis would outdo his world record of 6.31 again, which he had set on home soil in March this year. But he did not go for the attempt.

Karalis took home the silver with 6.00 m, his second successive medal at the European Championships, while France’s Thierry Baptiste, who cleared 5.85m, took bronze.

Earlier in March, he made history at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, becoming the first-ever man to secure four successive world indoor pole vault titles and setting a new championship record in the process.

Following Australian Kurtis Mascharll’s attempt of 6.00 m to secure the bronze, the fight for the gold medal was down to Mondo and Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, as per Olympics.com.

Karalis, confident after securing his personal best attempt of 6.17 m in the home championships just a few weeks back, managed to pass 6.10 m and 6.15 m. Mondo managed to clear both heights with ease in his first attempt.

When Karalis failed to reach 6.20 m in his first attempt, Mondo soared higher, to a record-breaking 6.25 m, outclassing his own championship record of 6.20 m from the 2022 edition in Belgrade. (ANI)

Dhruv Jurel on Sunday said he was not under any “pressure” despite failing to notch up a fifty in his last seven innings, and thanked head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill for giving him confidence during the lean phase.

Jurel made a 68-ball 51 on the second day of the first Test, playing an important hand to lead India to a formidable 460 for nine against Sri Lanka here. “There was, honestly, no pressure. I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to represent India. That’s the only privilege that I play for,” Jurel said in the post-day press conference.

“So whenever I speak to the captain or head coach, they always tell me what to do, what the situation is. So, tell me to play accordingly. There is no personal milestone that I look for before batting. I just go there and do what the team needs,” he said.

Jurel had played at this same venue for India A in the lead-up to the Test series, and the middle-order batter said the experience stood him in good stead here. “We came here 10 days before. We practised in Colombo and before that played for India ‘A’, and we had four to five sessions. It’s all about batting on these kinds of surfaces as much as I can. It improves my batting, knowing the environment, and the situation. It’s really helpful,” he noted.
