2026 Asian Games: India’s Women’s Compound Archery Team Defends Gold With Victory Over China
India’s women’s compound archery team has won another Asian Games gold. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep, and Taniparthi Chikitha beat China 238-234 in the final on Wednesday. The win means India have defended the title they won at Hangzhou in 2023.
The Indian trio started strongly. They took the first end 60-58, hitting a series of perfect 10s. They kept the pressure on in the second end, winning it by the same score. Going into the last end, India led 178-176. China then struggled, scoring two 9s. India stayed calm and shot six perfect 10s to close out the match. The final score was 238-234.
This victory also equals a world record. South Korea had achieved the same total at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. China took silver. South Korea beat Chinese Taipei for bronze. Earlier, India had beaten South Korea 234-233 to reach the final. The gold medal match was held at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park.
India still have more chances in archery. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Sahil Jadhav will play Thailand in the compound mixed team semifinal. If they win, they will have a shot at gold. The men’s compound team, featuring Sahil Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru, and Kushal Dalal, will face South Korea in their semifinal. A win there would also put them in medal contention. The gold medal winners in archery will earn a quota spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
India’s Men’s Compound Archery Team Beats South Korea to Reach Final
India’s men’s compound archery team fought hard to reach the final at the 2026 Asian Games. They showed great calm and determination. The team were Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav, and Ganesh Mani Ratnam. They competed in Okazaki, Japan.
Their path to the semi-finals was not easy. In the round of 16, they beat the UAE 235-215. That was a comfortable win. In the quarter-final, they faced Bhutan. That match was much closer. India held their nerve and won 235-232. That set up a semi-final against South Korea.
South Korea were one of the top teams in the world. They had beaten Iran 239-234 in their quarter-final. The semi-final was a tense contest. India won by just two points, 235-233. The South Koreans fought back hard. They levelled the score at 175-175 in the second half. But India stayed composed. They took a one-point lead. Then Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep hit perfect 10s with their final arrows to seal the win.
That victory put India in the gold medal match. There, they faced China. The Indian trio of Chikitha Taniparthi, Prithika Pradeep, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam went on to win 238-234. They defended their Asian Games title. They also set a world-record score.
The men’s team’s semi-final win was an important part of India’s strong compound archery campaign. India successfully defended all five gold medals they had won at the 2023 Asian Games.

Kuldeep’s unique skills can help us win in any condition: Bahutule
[popcorn number="4-40" desc="Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling figures in the first ODI vs WI" class="Default"]
India’s spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule was waxed lyrical about left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and his ‘unique ability’ to deliver a match-winning spell across all conditions for the Men in Blue.
Yadav’s 4-40 in the first ODI against West Indies turned the match in India’s favour, and Bahutule expects more of the same from him in the second match here.
Sairaj Bahutule
“Kuldeep Yadav has always been a match winner for India. He came into a series well prepared and again, he is a player who every team would want to have because he is always lively on and off the field. At the same time, his unique skills help us to perform in any conditions,” Bahutule told reporters at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
Ahead of the ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia next year, Bahutule spoke of fine-tuning the bowling combinations.
“These series are a good opportunity for us to also see different types of [bowling] combinations we can have in the team. So that’s what the thought process was to give Nitish Reddy the new ball [in the first ODI]. Ample opportunities will be given to all the bowlers in different phases. So you might see Gurnoor [Brar] bowling with the new ball, things like that. When it comes to the fast bowlers, it will be important to see who would actually be the three fast bowlers [that India take to the World Cup], explained Bahutule.
